Safe-T-Secure® & STS-Body Pad™ foam biodegraded nearly 3× faster than The Pink Pad® Biodegradable foam at 120 days* in independent laboratory testing. We publish the results exactly as tested — methodology and disclaimers included.

The official test result, exactly as reported:
Independent laboratory biodegradability test results: NinoMed Safe-T-Secure and STS-Body Pad foam biodegraded 36.0% at 120 days versus 12.7% for The Pink Pad Biodegradable foam, using a modified/extended ASTM D5511 protocol, with full test methodology and disclaimers

*Independent laboratory testing using modified/extended ASTM D5511 protocol at 120 days.

ASTM D5511 is an accelerated test designed to measure intrinsic biodegradability of plastic materials in a high-solids anaerobic digestion process (such as a landfill) under optimal conditions at 30 days.

Actual landfill conditions and biodegradation results may vary. The stated rate and extent of biodegradation of Safe-T-Secure®/STS-BodyPad™ foam and The Pink Pad Biodegradable® foam does not mean that the products will continue to decompose after the test period cited.

The time for Safe-T-Secure®/STS-BodyPad™ foam to decompose completely into elements found in nature has not been determined.

Why it matters

Single-use doesn't have to mean forever.

Single-patient-use foam is the standard of care for infection control in surgical positioning — but most of it is discarded after one case. That's why we had our foam independently tested for biodegradability and why we publish the full results above, rather than a summary claim. Questions about the testing? Ask us — we'll share the data.
